Meet the person behind Stitches at Altitude! My name is Kayla. My cousin first introduced me to knitting when I was in grade school. I remember sitting on the couch with her after opening Christmas presents one year, holding the needles awkwardly in my hands. I thought I would learn how to make a sweater in a day! I’m still not that fast, but I have learned so much from that day!
The first time I heard about crocheting was when I was introduced to my fifth-grade pen pal. I am so grateful for her friendship and for showing me a craft that would become a huge part of my life. She took the time to teach me how to crochet, and I’ve been hooked ever since!
Where Crafting Is Elevated
Now you know about the Stitches, what about the Altitude? Living with the Rocky Mountains in my backyard means I seldom have to search for new inspiration. Nature is beautiful and a wonderful place to look for ideas for knitting projects. Sun or snow there is always something waiting to be seen! When I am not knitting, I am hiking or camping in the great outdoors.
I have often tried to find creative ways to incorporate fiber arts into my day-to-day life. I took every opportunity to crochet for a class project and always brought my projects to school.
In college I found a group of people who also loved to knit and crochet and joined their school sponsored group. In the last year before I graduated, I became president of the club. One of the best feelings is helping someone learn to knit for the first time, and watching their faces light up when they complete the first row.
I hope that after visiting Stitches at Altitude, you leave feeling inspired to pick up your current work (or works, I never have just one) in progress, or start a new one! You can read my blog here. Have a lovely day!
